Apodis I

The Apodis I family of processors, launched in 2012, is the heart of Optical Transport Network (OTN) technology that enables service providers to support multiple traffic types on high-capacity wireless and wireline networks in a flexible architecture.


Apodis I pioneered true System-on-a-Chip capabilities, providing the largest capacity in the industry of 40G on a single processor for efficient utilization of carriers’ fiber optic infrastructure. Apodis I processors enables highly cost effective deployment since unlike other OTN technology providers, Apodis I can transmit multiple rates on the same blade, eliminating the need to deploy multiple blades.


The Apodis I family is comprised of five different processors, from 40G to 10G, including multiplexers (IPL4001M, IPL4101M, IPL4201M) and framers (IPL4301F, IPL4401F).

With the growth of mobile traffic and the need for high bandwidth services, OTN is the method of choice for transmitting CPRI signals. Apodis I is available as an interim solution for CPRI over OTN, for proof of concept and field trials, until the availability of Apodis IIC in 2014.
